Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Levofloxacin + metronidazole phosphate (disodium) is an intravenous combination prodrug developed by Yangtze River Pharmaceutical Group (specifically its subsidiary Nanjing Hailing Pharmaceutical). It consists of levofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, and metronidazole phosphate, a prodrug of the nitroimidazole antibiotic metronidazole which acts as a DNA modulator to disrupt anaerobic bacterial growth. This combination is designed to treat mixed aerobic and anaerobic infections of the pelvic region, including pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, and salpingitis. It has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in China (e.g., CTR20180384) comparing its efficacy and safety to standard levofloxacin metronidazole sodium chloride injections.
