Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Folica Plus is a nutraceutical formulation developed by Scotmann Pharmaceuticals containing Quatrefolic, the glucosamine salt of (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF). As the fourth-generation folate, it represents the biologically active form of vitamin B9 that is naturally present in the body and available for immediate use in the folate cycle. Unlike synthetic folic acid, levomefolate glucosamine does not require metabolic conversion by the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) enzyme, making it particularly effective for individuals with MTHFR genetic polymorphisms. It is primarily indicated for the treatment and prevention of folate deficiency, support during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects, and management of hyperhomocysteinemia.
