Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Levomin is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) containing the synthetic estrogen ethinylestradiol and the synthetic progestin levonorgestrel. Developed by Mibe Arzneimittel, it is approved and marketed in strengths of 20/100 µg (Levomin 20) and 30/150 µg (Levomin 30). The medication works primarily by suppressing ovulation through the inhibition of gonadotropin secretion (luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone) from the pituitary gland. Additionally, it thickens cervical mucus to inhibit sperm penetration and alters the endometrium to reduce the likelihood of implantation, providing reliable prevention of pregnancy.
