Overview

Levophencynonate hydrochloride is the active enantiomer of phencynonate and acts as an anticholinergic agent with muscarinic receptor antagonist properties. It competitively binds to central muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (notably M4 subtype), thereby inhibiting cholinergic neurotransmission in the central nervous system. This mechanism underlies its efficacy in preventing acute motion sickness and vertigo with a profile similar to scopolamine. Levophencynonate has been investigated for use in vertigo (especially due to posterior circulation infarction), motion sickness prevention, and Parkinson's disease. The drug was developed by Sihuan Pharmaceutical Holdings Group and originated from the Academy of Military Medical Sciences[1][2][3][5][8].
