levormeloxifene

Levormeloxifene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) and the levo-enantiomer of ormeloxifene. Developed by Novo Nordisk, it was primarily investigated for the treatment and prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis and for its potential cardiovascular benefits, such as antiatherogenic effects. As a SERM, it exhibits tissue-specific estrogenic and anti-estrogenic activities by acting as a partial agonist at estrogen receptors. Clinical development was halted during Phase 3 trials in the late 1990s after reports of an increased incidence of adverse gynecological events, including uterine prolapse and urinary incontinence, in women receiving the drug.
