Levornidazole disodium phosphate is a **water-soluble intravenous formulation** of levornidazole, the L-isomer phosphate salt derivative of ornidazole and a member of the nitroimidazole class of anti-infective agents[7][6][9]. It is used primarily for the **treatment and prevention of infections caused by anaerobic bacteria**, including intra-abdominal, pelvic, oral, surgical, brain infections, as well as sepsis and bacteremia[7][3][1]. Levornidazole acts as a DNA-modulating agent, disrupting DNA synthesis in susceptible microorganisms[9]. Compared to ornidazole and L-ornidazole, its phosphate disodium form offers markedly improved water solubility, less vascular irritation, and minimal central nervous system suppression[7][6].
