Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ventirex-Levo is a bronchodilator syrup containing levosalbutamol (also known as levalbuterol), which is the active (R)-enantiomer of the racemic bronchodilator salbutamol. Manufactured by Unimarck Pharma India Ltd, the product is formulated as a 1 mg/5 ml syrup for oral administration. Levosalbutamol acts as a selective beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, triggering the relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle to alleviate airway obstruction. It is primarily used in the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to relieve symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, and coughing. As the purified R-enantiomer, levosalbutamol is intended to provide bronchodilation with potentially fewer beta-mediated side effects, such as tachycardia or tremors, compared to the racemic mixture.
