levosimendan

Levosimendan is a calcium sensitizer and inotropic agent developed by Orion. It is primarily used for the short-term treatment of acutely decompensated heart failure when conventional therapy is insufficient. Levosimendan increases cardiac contractility by sensitizing cardiac troponin C to calcium, thereby enhancing myocardial contraction without increasing intracellular calcium levels or oxygen consumption. Additionally, it opens ATP-sensitive potassium channels in vascular smooth muscle and cardiomyocytes, leading to vasodilation (reduced preload and afterload) and providing cardioprotective effects. The drug also exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-apoptotic properties, and does not significantly affect heart rate at therapeutic doses[1][5][9].
