Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Levothyroxine + iodide is a fixed-dose combination drug containing levothyroxine (a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine, T4) and an iodide salt, typically potassium iodide. This combination is used to treat hypothyroidism and related thyroid disorders, particularly in regions or clinical situations where iodine deficiency may contribute to thyroid dysfunction. Levothyroxine acts by replacing deficient endogenous thyroxine, thereby restoring normal metabolic activity regulated by thyroid hormones. Iodide serves as a substrate for the synthesis of endogenous thyroid hormones within the gland. The combination ensures both hormone replacement and adequate iodine supply for optimal thyroid function.
