Levothyroxine + liothyronine is a combination drug containing two synthetic thyroid hormones used primarily for the treatment of hypothyroidism and certain other thyroid disorders. Levothyroxine (T4) and liothyronine (T3) are both naturally occurring hormones produced by the thyroid gland. Levothyroxine acts as a prohormone that is converted in peripheral tissues to the more active triiodothyronine (liothyronine). Together, these hormones regulate metabolism, energy production, protein synthesis, body temperature, and organ function. The combination therapy aims to restore normal levels of both T4 and T3 in patients whose bodies do not produce enough endogenous hormone or who have persistent symptoms despite monotherapy with levothyroxine. It may also be used as adjunctive therapy in certain cases of thyroid cancer or goiter management[1][2][3][10].
