Overview

Levovirin is a pharmaceutical drug classified as a guanosine nucleoside analogue and is the L-enantiomer of ribavirin. It is an investigational drug primarily developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Levovirin exhibits immunomodulatory activity, similar to ribavirin, but notably lacks direct antiviral activity and causes less hemolytic anemia, which is a significant side effect of ribavirin. This improved safety profile was intended to offer a better therapeutic option for patients with chronic HCV.
