Levunique Gé is an approved small-molecule emergency contraceptive containing 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel, a synthetic progestogen. Developed and marketed by Exeltis France, it is indicated for use within 72 hours of unprotected or inadequately protected intercourse to prevent pregnancy. The drug primarily works by inhibiting ovulation and preventing sperm from fertilizing a released egg. It is a generic version of the 1.5 mg levonorgestrel formulation and received marketing authorization in France on June 1, 2018. It is administered as a single oral tablet and is not an abortifacient, meaning it cannot interrupt an established pregnancy.
