Overview

LF-1 is a synthetic lactotransferrin-derived antimicrobial peptide designed based on the N-terminal functional sequence of lactotransferrin (specifically lactoferrampin). It exhibits selective antibacterial and antibiofilm activity against the cariogenic bacterium Streptococcus mutans. LF-1 acts by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, altering membrane potential and hydrophobicity, and downregulating virulence-associated genes involved in acidogenicity, aciduricity, and extracellular polysaccharide synthesis. It has demonstrated efficacy in reducing dental caries in rodent models and is being developed for the prevention and control of dental caries.
