LF501 is a preclinical small molecule drug candidate being developed by Lifex Biolabs for the treatment of VRK1-positive solid tumors. The drug is designed to target Vaccinia-Related Kinase 1 (VRK1), a serine/threonine kinase that plays a critical role in cell cycle regulation, DNA repair, and chromatin signaling. VRK1 is frequently overexpressed in various cancers and has been identified as a potential synthetic lethal target, particularly in tumors with low expression of the related kinase VRK2. LF501 was discovered using a fragment-based drug discovery approach known as SAR by NMR (Structure-Activity Relationship by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) and is currently in the discovery/preclinical phase of development.
