LFn-p24B.C is a therapeutic HIV vaccine candidate developed by the Haikou Weitai Bio Research Institute. It is a recombinant fusion protein consisting of the N-terminal fragment of the anthrax lethal factor (LFn) fused to the HIV-1 p24 capsid protein, specifically targeting HIV-1 subtypes B and C, which are prevalent in China. The LFn component acts as a specialized delivery vehicle that facilitates the translocation of the p24 antigen into the cytosol of antigen-presenting cells (APCs). This intracellular delivery is designed to enhance the processing and presentation of p24 epitopes via the MHC class I pathway, thereby stimulating a robust and specific cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) response. The vaccine is intended to help the immune system identify and destroy HIV-infected cells, potentially serving as a functional cure or a component of a multi-pronged therapeutic strategy for HIV infection.
