Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LG3 is a first-in-class regenerative biologic being developed by Stream Biomedical for the treatment of acute and chronic neurological conditions, including ischemic stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Alzheimer's disease. LG3 is a recombinant version of the C-terminal fragment of the basement membrane proteoglycan perlecan (HSPG2). The therapy is designed to reactivate the brain's natural repair processes by providing neurovascular protection, reducing neuronal cell death, and improving the integrity of the blood-brain barrier. Preclinical data indicates that LG3 promotes angiogenesis and neurogenesis, leading to rapid improvements in functional performance and motor coordination following brain injury. By targeting endogenous repair pathways through interactions with cell surface receptors like integrin alpha-2/beta-1, LG3 represents a novel approach to treating brain damage for which no restorative therapies currently exist.
