Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LGL13K is a 13-amino-acid cationic antimicrobial peptide (AMP) derived from the salivary protein BPI fold-containing family A member 2 (BPIFA2, formerly parotid secretory protein). It is the L-form stereoisomer of DGL13K (Minneganan). LGL13K exhibits bactericidal activity primarily against Gram-negative bacteria, such as *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* and *Escherichia coli*, as well as their biofilms. It acts by binding to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and disrupting the bacterial cell membrane. However, unlike its protease-resistant D-enantiomer DGL13K, LGL13K is susceptible to degradation by bacterial proteases and is less effective against Gram-positive bacteria. It is primarily utilized as a research-stage comparator in studies evaluating antimicrobial peptide efficacy and resistance mechanisms.
