LH-2417 is a novel small molecule 5α-reductase inhibitor being developed by Jiangsu Lianhuan Pharmaceutical for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It functions by inhibiting the enzyme steroid 5-alpha-reductase, which is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the primary androgen driving prostate growth and enlargement. By reducing systemic and intraprostatic DHT levels, LH-2417 aims to alleviate lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with BPH. As of 2024, the compound is in Phase 1 clinical development, including studies to evaluate its safety, pharmacokinetics, and potential drug-drug interactions with other common BPH and erectile dysfunction therapies, such as the PDE5 inhibitor tadalafil.
