Overview

LHNVD-303 is a broad-based, adjuvanted composite peptide vaccine developed by Longhorn Vaccines and Diagnostics. It is designed to prevent bacterial infections and sepsis, particularly those caused by antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) bacteria. The vaccine targets highly conserved epitopes from key bacterial cell wall components—peptidoglycan (PGN), lipoteichoic acid (LTA), and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)—which are present in both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria as well as mycobacteria. By inducing robust polyclonal antibody responses against these components, the vaccine aims to neutralize pathogens directly, bind and clear their toxins, reduce systemic inflammation, and provide protection against acute infections like sepsis as well as chronic inflammatory conditions such as inflammaging. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that antibodies generated by the vaccine can bind to a wide range of pathogenic bacteria—including Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium smegmatis, E. coli, Group B Streptococcus—and promote opsonophagocytic killing of live bacteria without compromising immune function or causing significant reactogenicity[1][3][5][6][7].
