Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LH-1801 + metformin is a combination therapy consisting of lianagliflozin (LH-1801), a novel sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and metformin, a biguanide antihyperglycemic agent. Lianagliflozin, co-developed by Jiangsu Lianhuan Pharmaceutical and the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, selectively inhibits SGLT2 in the renal proximal tubules, reducing renal glucose reabsorption and promoting urinary glucose excretion. Metformin works primarily by decreasing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity. This combination is being developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In Phase III clinical trials, the combination of lianagliflozin and metformin demonstrated non-inferiority in glycemic efficacy (HbA1c reduction) compared to the active comparator dapagliflozin plus metformin, with favorable safety, weight reduction, and blood pressure profiles.
