Lianbai paste is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) topical preparation developed by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University for the management of acute radiodermatitis. The formulation is primarily composed of extracts from *Coptis chinensis* (Huanglian) and *Phellodendron amurense* (Huangbai), which are rich in isoquinoline alkaloids such as berberine, palmatine, and jatrorrhizine. These active compounds exert potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects. By inhibiting the NF-kappaB signaling pathway and reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6, Lianbai paste helps to alleviate the skin irritation, erythema, and ulceration typically associated with radiation therapy in cancer patients. It is currently utilized as a hospital-specific preparation and has been the subject of clinical trials to evaluate its efficacy and safety in preventing and treating radiation-induced skin injuries.
