Overview
Lianfei Zhike Fang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic cough and cough variant asthma (CVA). Its therapeutic mechanism is rooted in the TCM principle of 'astringing the lung' (Lianfei) to arrest cough (Zhike), effectively addressing symptoms of lung deficiency and persistent airway irritation. Research indicates that the formula exerts anti-inflammatory effects by downregulating the expression of Th2 cytokines, such as interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-5 (IL-5), and reducing serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels. These actions contribute to the reduction of airway hyperresponsiveness and the stabilization of mast cells. It is commonly developed and utilized within clinical research frameworks in China, often administered as an oral decoction or concentrated granules.
