Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liangxue Huayuan Decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by the Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, specifically designed for patients with esophageal cancer. It is primarily utilized to prevent and treat radiation-induced esophagitis, a common complication of radiotherapy. The formula is based on the TCM principles of cooling the blood (Liangxue) and transforming the source (Huayuan) to counteract the heat-toxin effects of radiation. Pharmacologically, the decoction is thought to work by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-6, and modulating the NF-kappaB signaling pathway, thereby reducing mucosal inflammation and promoting the healing of the esophageal lining.
