Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Liangxue Tongyu Prescription (LTP), also known as 凉血通瘀方, is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula used for the treatment of acute intracerebral hemorrhage (AICH). [2, 4, 6] The name translates to "cooling blood and resolving stasis," which reflects its function in TCM theory. The prescription is a complex combination of eight ingredients, including botanicals like Rheum palmatum (Dahuang) and Panax notoginseng (Sanqi), as well as animal-derived components like Bubali Cornu (water buffalo horn) and Pheretima aspergillum (earthworm). [4] Research indicates that its therapeutic effects are multifactorial, involving anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and anticoagulant activities. [2] The mechanism is believed to be mediated through multiple pathways, including the regulation of the gut-brain axis, modulation of intestinal microflora, reduction of inflammatory cytokines like TNF-α and IL-1β, and inhibition of the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway. [3, 5, 12] Clinical studies have investigated its use as an oral solution to reduce hematoma, alleviate brain edema, and improve neurological function following a stroke. [14]
