Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lianhua Qingke (LHQK) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) developed by Shijiazhuang Yiling Pharmaceutical for the treatment of respiratory conditions characterized by cough and excessive phlegm. Approved in China for acute tracheobronchitis, it is also being evaluated for COVID-19 (including the Omicron variant), acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD), and Mycoplasma pneumonia. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to its ability to reduce airway mucus hypersecretion by suppressing Mucin-5AC (Muc5ac) transcription and secretion, inhibiting goblet cell hyperplasia, and downregulating the NF-κB inflammatory signaling pathway. Additionally, it helps maintain airway mucus homeostasis by modulating the balance between Muc5ac and Aquaporin-5 (AQP5) expression.
