Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lianhua Qingwen is a widely used Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Shijiazhuang Yiling Pharmaceutical. Originally created during the 2003 SARS outbreak, it has since been utilized for various viral respiratory infections, including influenza and COVID-19. The formulation is composed of 13 herbal ingredients, including *Lonicera japonica* (honeysuckle) and *Forsythia suspensa*. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to a multi-targeted mechanism that includes anti-viral activity (inhibiting viral entry and replication), anti-inflammatory action (suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-6 and TNF-alpha), and immunomodulatory effects. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of fever, cough, and fatigue associated with viral infections such as the common cold, influenza, and COVID-19. In China, it is regulated as a pharmaceutical product and is available in both capsule and granule forms.
