Libaoduo is a pegylated liposomal formulation of doxorubicin hydrochloride developed by Shanghai Fudan-Zhangjiang Bio-Pharmaceutical. It is an anthracycline antineoplastic agent primarily indicated for the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer in patients who have failed first-line platinum-based chemotherapy, as well as for AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma and multiple myeloma. The drug works by intercalating between DNA base pairs and inhibiting topoisomerase II, which disrupts DNA replication and RNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. The liposomal delivery system significantly alters the pharmacokinetics of doxorubicin, allowing for enhanced accumulation in tumor tissues through the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect while reducing systemic toxicity, particularly the risk of dose-limiting cardiotoxicity associated with conventional doxorubicin formulations.
