Overview

The regimen referred to as seasonal influenza vaccine-Novavax-COVID-19 involves the co-administration of a licensed seasonal influenza vaccine and Novavax's COVID-19 vaccine, NVX-CoV2373 (brand name Nuvaxovid). NVX-CoV2373 is a recombinant nanoparticle vaccine containing the spike (S) protein of SARS-CoV-2, formulated with the saponin-based Matrix-M1 adjuvant. This co-administration was specifically evaluated in a sub-study of the Phase 3 UK trial (NCT04583995) to assess the safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy of giving both vaccines during the same visit. The influenza vaccines used in the study were commercially available licensed products, such as Flucelvax Quadrivalent or Fluad. Results from the trial indicated that co-administration was safe and did not significantly interfere with the immune response to either vaccine, supporting the feasibility of joint vaccination programs.
