lidocaine + adrenaline

Lidocaine + adrenaline is a combination of the local anesthetic lidocaine (2%) and the vasoconstrictor adrenaline (epinephrine, 1:100,000) used as a topical intervention. Developed for clinical study by Dow University of Health Sciences, it is applied via soaked gauze to skin graft donor sites, particularly on the thigh, in patients with non-healing wounds or burns requiring split-thickness skin grafting. Lidocaine provides analgesia by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, while adrenaline induces local vasoconstriction through adrenergic receptor agonism. This dual action aims to minimize perioperative bleeding, reduce the frequency of dressing changes, and alleviate postoperative pain within the first 24 hours of skin graft harvesting.
