Overview

The combination of **lidocaine** and **dexamethasone** is being investigated by the **University of Jordan** for the prevention of postoperative sore throat (POST) in patients undergoing general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that is applied topically as a gel (Xylocaine) to the endotracheal tube cuff to provide local analgesia and reduce mechanical irritation of the tracheal mucosa. Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic glucocorticoid administered intravenously to provide systemic anti-inflammatory effects, thereby reducing airway edema and inflammation caused by intubation trauma. This dual approach aims to minimize the incidence and severity of POST by targeting both local physical irritation and the subsequent systemic inflammatory response.
