Overview

Lidocaine + dexamethasone is an investigational combination therapy being evaluated by The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, for the management of severe headaches in patients with spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). The treatment involves the endovascular infusion of lidocaine, a local anesthetic, and dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, directly into the middle meningeal artery (MMA) via a microcatheter during angiography. This targeted delivery aims to provide pain relief by inducing vasoconstriction of the MMA and exerting anti-inflammatory effects on the cranial dura mater, which is primarily supplied by the MMA. This approach is currently being studied in a Phase 2 clinical trial to assess its efficacy and safety in reducing headache severity in the SAH population.
