Lidocaine + dexmedetomidine is an investigational intravenous combination therapy being studied by Anqing Municipal Hospital for the enhancement of postoperative recovery. This combination leverages the pharmacological properties of lidocaine, a small molecule local anesthetic and sodium channel blocker, and dexmedetomidine, a selective alpha-2 adrenergic agonist. The therapy is primarily evaluated in patients undergoing laparoscopic total hysterectomy to improve the quality of recovery (QoR-40 scores), reduce postoperative pain, decrease the incidence of nausea and vomiting, and attenuate systemic inflammatory responses (e.g., IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-α). By combining these two agents, researchers aim to achieve superior perioperative outcomes compared to the administration of either drug alone through synergistic analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects.
