Overview

This is a combination of three drugs—lidocaine, epinephrine, and morphine—used primarily in regional or local anesthesia for surgical or procedural pain management. Lidocaine is an amide-type local anesthetic that works by blocking sodium channels in neuronal membranes, thereby inhibiting nerve impulse conduction and producing loss of sensation at the site of administration[2][3][4]. Epinephrine acts as a vasoconstrictor via alpha-adrenergic receptor agonism; when combined with lidocaine, it prolongs the duration of anesthesia by reducing systemic absorption and limiting bleeding at the injection site[3][4][7]. Morphine is an opioid analgesic that binds to mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system to provide potent pain relief[1][8]. The combination may be used for enhanced intraoperative anesthesia and postoperative analgesia, particularly in procedures requiring both profound numbness and extended pain control[9].
