Overview

This investigational combination therapy consists of the local anesthetic lidocaine and the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist ketamine. Developed by Hospices Civils de Lyon, it is specifically being evaluated for the treatment of neuropathic pain associated with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Type 1 (CRPS1). The treatment utilizes mesotherapy, a delivery technique involving multiple superficial microinjections (intra-epidermal and intradermal), which aims to provide targeted local analgesia while minimizing systemic exposure and associated side effects. Lidocaine acts by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels to inhibit nerve conduction and provide local vasodilation, while ketamine modulates central sensitization and neuropathic pain pathways by antagonizing NMDA receptors. The therapy is currently being studied in a Phase 2/3 clinical trial to determine the optimal dose and efficacy of the mixture.
