Overview
NAL1246 is a transdermal patch formulation containing a combination of lidocaine (4%) and menthol (1%), developed by NAL Pharmaceutical Group for the treatment of lower back pain. The product is designed for over-the-counter (OTC) use. Lidocaine acts as a local anesthetic by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. Menthol acts as a counterirritant and activates the TRPM8 (transient receptor potential melastatin member 8) receptor, providing a cooling sensation and further contributing to analgesia. The drug is currently in preclinical development.
