Numit is a topical anesthetic cream containing a eutectic mixture of lidocaine (2.5% w/w) and prilocaine (2.5% w/w) in a 1:1 oil-in-water emulsion. Developed and manufactured by Ego Pharmaceuticals, it is designed for dermal anesthesia by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in peripheral nerve endings, which prevents the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. The product is indicated for use prior to procedures such as intravenous catheterization, blood sampling, vaccinations, and minor surgical or cosmetic procedures. It has also been investigated in clinical trials at Queensland Children's Hospital for pain management during pediatric laser treatments for vascular malformations and scars.
