Lidocaine hydrochloride + epinephrine bitartrate is a fixed-dose combination drug used primarily for local and regional anesthesia. Lidocaine, an amide-type local anesthetic, functions by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. Epinephrine, a sympathomimetic amine, acts as a vasoconstrictor by stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors. This vasoconstriction reduces local blood flow at the site of administration, which serves to prolong the duration of lidocaine's anesthetic effect, decrease the rate of systemic absorption (thereby reducing potential toxicity), and minimize surgical bleeding.
