Overview

Lidocaine hydrochloride + saline is a pharmaceutical mixture used primarily for trigger point injections in the management of myofascial pain syndrome and chronic neck pain. Lidocaine hydrochloride is a local anesthetic of the amide type that acts as a voltage-gated sodium channel blocker. By binding to the internal portion of the sodium channel, it prevents the influx of sodium ions into the neuronal cell, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses and providing rapid local analgesia. In clinical trials conducted at Ankara Etlik City Hospital, a specific mixture of 1 ml of 2% lidocaine hydrochloride and 1 ml of normal saline (0.9% sodium chloride) was evaluated for its efficacy in treating trigger points in the upper trapezius muscle, both as a standalone therapy and in combination with greater occipital nerve blocks.
