Overview

Lidocaine viscous + lidocaine spray is a combination of two formulations of the local anesthetic lidocaine. Both forms are used to provide localized numbing by blocking sodium channels in nerve membranes and inhibiting nerve signal transmission. Lidocaine viscous (typically 2%) is a thick liquid applied to mucosal surfaces in the mouth and throat for pain relief from conditions such as mucositis or before medical/dental procedures[1][2][3][4]. Lidocaine spray (available in various concentrations) is used topically on skin or mucosa for rapid-onset anesthesia prior to minor procedures or for symptomatic relief of irritation[7]. The mechanism of action for both forms is identical—reversible inhibition of voltage-gated sodium channels on neuronal cell membranes—resulting in loss of sensation at the site of application[5]. This combination may be used when both deep and surface anesthesia are required across different oral or mucosal sites.
