LidoDyn is a topical anesthetic formulation containing 5% lidocaine combined with a disinfecting agent. Developed by researchers at the Rambam Health Care Campus, it is designed to provide rapid local anesthesia and skin disinfection prior to needle-related procedures such as venipuncture, particularly in pediatric populations. Lidocaine, the primary active component, acts as a local anesthetic by binding to and inhibiting voltage-gated sodium channels on the neuronal membrane, thereby preventing the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. The addition of a disinfectant aims to streamline the preparation process for clinical procedures. In clinical studies, LidoDyn has been evaluated for its efficacy in reducing pain during venipuncture in children compared to standard treatments like EMLA cream.
