LidoSite is a transdermal iontophoretic local anesthetic system that delivers lidocaine with epinephrine through the skin to produce localized dermal analgesia for procedures such as venipuncture and superficial dermatologic interventions. It uses a low-level electrical current to drive the charged anesthetic and vasoconstrictor into the skin, where lidocaine blocks voltage-gated sodium channels in peripheral nerves to inhibit impulse initiation and conduction, while epinephrine induces local vasoconstriction to prolong anesthetic duration and limit systemic absorption. Developed as a prescription topical anesthetic product combining established agents with a device-based delivery system, it was approved for short-term local anesthesia but is no longer marketed.
