Overview

Lidotop is a topical medicated patch containing 5% lidocaine, a local anesthetic of the amide class. It is designed to provide localized analgesia by delivering lidocaine through the skin to the underlying peripheral nerves. The drug's mechanism of action involves the stabilization of neuronal membranes by inhibiting the ionic fluxes required for the initiation and conduction of impulses, specifically by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels. While Lidotop is primarily approved for the treatment of post-herpetic neuralgia, it has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials, such as those sponsored by Bon Wook Koo, for the management of postoperative pain following procedures like open unilateral inguinal herniorrhaphy. The patch is typically applied directly to or near the site of pain or surgical incision to provide localized relief with minimal systemic absorption.
