Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LifeFoam is an injectable, non-thrombin, expanding hemostatic foam developed by Medcura Inc. for the treatment of severe, noncompressible internal hemorrhage, particularly in trauma and battlefield settings. The product's active ingredient is modified chitosan, a polysaccharide-based biopolymer that facilitates platelet adhesion and aggregation while providing mucoadhesion to wet tissue, creating a physical barrier that stops bleeding. LifeFoam is designed to resist bacterial colonization and is delivered via syringe or spray. It received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in 2019 and is currently in development/feasibility stages as a medical device.
