Lifitegrast is a small molecule drug used as an ophthalmic solution to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (keratoconjunctivitis sicca). It acts as a lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) antagonist, blocking the interaction between LFA-1 on T cells and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) on ocular tissues. This inhibition reduces T-cell–mediated inflammation at the ocular surface, thereby alleviating dry eye symptoms. Lifitegrast was originally developed by SARcode Bioscience, later acquired by Shire, with subsequent rights transferred to Takeda, Novartis, and most recently Bausch + Lomb. The drug is supplied as an eye drop under the brand name Xiidra[3][4][5][8].
