lifitegrast + micro-emulsion lipid layer artificial tears

This is a combination therapy consisting of lifitegrast, an ophthalmic small molecule immunomodulator, and a micro-emulsion lipid layer artificial tear. Lifitegrast is a lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) antagonist that inhibits the binding of LFA-1 to intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), thereby reducing T-cell mediated inflammation on the ocular surface. It is approved for the treatment of signs and symptoms of dry eye disease (DED). Micro-emulsion lipid layer artificial tears are lubricating eye drops designed to supplement or stabilize the tear film’s outermost lipid layer, reducing evaporation and improving ocular surface hydration. The combination has been studied as an adjunctive regimen to improve tolerance and compliance with topical immunomodulators like lifitegrast in patients with DED who are at risk of failing or have previously failed immunomodulatory therapy[1][3]. The combined use targets both inflammatory mechanisms (via lifitegrast) and tear film instability/evaporation (via micro-emulsion lipid supplementation).
