Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lifogesic Advance is a topical analgesic and anti-inflammatory gel developed and marketed by Intra Life, an Indian pharmaceutical company. The formulation is a combination of diclofenac diethylamine, methyl salicylate, menthol, and linseed oil. Diclofenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. Methyl salicylate and menthol function as counterirritants; menthol stimulates cold receptors (TRPM8) to provide a cooling sensation, while methyl salicylate induces a warming effect, together helping to mask deeper musculoskeletal pain. Linseed oil (containing alpha-linolenic acid) is included for its auxiliary anti-inflammatory properties and to enhance the topical absorption of the active ingredients. It is primarily indicated for the local relief of pain and inflammation associated with muscle pain, joint pain, arthritis, backache, sprains, and strains.
