Ligilactobacillus animalis LA-1 is a canine-derived probiotic strain isolated from the feces of healthy dogs. It has been investigated for its potential anti-obesity and metabolic regulatory effects in preclinical models, specifically in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice. The strain's mechanism of action involves the modulation of gut microbiota composition, characterized by a reduction in the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio and an enrichment of short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing genera. This modulation leads to increased production of acetate, propionate, and butyrate, which in turn influences hepatic metabolic pathways, resulting in decreased levels of acetyl-CoA, triglycerides, and bile acids. Preclinical studies have shown that LA-1 supplementation significantly alleviates weight gain, hepatic lipid accumulation, and adipose tissue hypertrophy without affecting food intake.
