ligilactobacillus salivarius CECT5713 (formerly Lactobacillus salivarius CECT5713) is a probiotic bacterial strain originally isolated from human breast milk. Developed by Biosearch Life (now part of Kerry Group), the strain is characterized for its immunomodulatory and antimicrobial properties. In clinical settings, it is primarily investigated for its ability to modulate the cervicovaginal ecosystem, aiming to improve pregnancy outcomes in women with a history of recurrent pregnancy loss or unexplained infertility. The mechanism involves the restoration of a healthy Lactobacillus-dominant microbiota, reduction of pathogenic bacteria (as measured by Nugent scores), and modulation of local cytokine profiles. It has also been marketed for the prevention and treatment of infectious mastitis during lactation.
