Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ligustrum lucidum is a species of flowering plant in the olive family (Oleaceae), commonly known as glossy privet or nu zhen zi in traditional Chinese medicine. The dried fruit is used medicinally and classified as a yin tonic herb. In traditional use and modern herbal practice it is believed to nourish the liver and kidney yin; support eyesight; reduce premature graying of hair; treat dizziness and tinnitus; improve immune function; and counteract effects of aging. Laboratory studies suggest potential antitumor, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, antiosteoporotic, antidiabetic, antiviral and hepatoprotective effects. However clinical evidence in humans remains limited. It is often used as part of multi-herb formulas rather than alone[1][2][3][4][5].
