Drug intelligence / Profile preview
LIM21 is a small molecule drug candidate developed by Limnopharma for the treatment of retinal degenerative diseases, primarily retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and dry age-related macular degeneration (dry-AMD). It is a chemical derivative of natural products, designed as a new chemical entity with neuroprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. LIM21 modulates the activity of a key epigenetic metabolic regulator involved in aging, inflammation, and apoptosis—mechanisms relevant to retinal degeneration. Preclinical studies have demonstrated efficacy in animal models for RP and dry-AMD. The drug is not gene therapy-based and may be suitable for broad patient populations with these conditions.
